Meet James T. Johnson, MD

Dr. Jim Johnson is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon at Panorama Orthopedic and Spine Center who specializes in sports medicine, with particular expertise in shoulder and knee injuries. As a staff physician for the U.S. Ski Team since 1999, he provides on-course medical care at World Cup races and travels internationally to support both the men’s and women’s alpine teams.

Dr. Johnson’s practice focuses on complex shoulder procedures, including rotator cuff repairs, shoulder instabilities, arthroscopic total shoulder replacements, and reverse shoulder procedures, as well as distal biceps tendon repairs. For knee injuries, he specializes in ACL repair and reconstruction, multi-ligament injuries, cartilage restoration, and patellar instability.

His patient care philosophy emphasizes addressing both the physical and mental aspects of injury and recovery. “In orthopedic medicine you have generally healthy patients who want to get better,” Dr. Johnson explains. “With hard work, time, patience and perseverance you can help them get there – back to enjoying their sport or the Colorado lifestyle.”

Dr. Johnson is married with three daughters and enjoys spending time with his family, running, skiing, cycling, fly fishing, baseball, golf, travel, music, cooking, and camping.
